But I think the word “came” in the question number 9 should be replaced by “come” since “can” and other modals always followed by verb-1.

I think my answers are exactly the same as Kadaneva’s.
Â
1. C. No (they aren’t). They have just moved to Dallas.
It’s the first category of the present perfect tense usage. We can also use the simple past tense,
No (they aren’t). They just moved to Dallas.
2. C. The color didn’t match, so I returned it to the store.
3. C. Yes, I like her better than before
4. D. I’ve been feeling better since the doctor came
5. D. Yes, that’s why I go to work by train.
6. D. I will have worked there for two years by next month
7. C. Luckily, I have sent it already
8. B. Yes, we have gone there since we first moved to Medan.
9. A. Yes, I will have finished meeting my client at the bank by then.
10. B. They were hungry, so they went to the canteen.
11. A. No, he had already gone when I came.
12. C. Had you studied a lot before you took it?
13. B. Thanks, but I have seen it already.
14. B. I watched TV, practiced the violin, and did my homework.
Parallel structure in the simple past tense.
15. B. because his parrot flew away.
16. B. I had planned to go, but I got sick at the last minute. Then, I cancelled it.
17. B. When Fajar wants to cut his hair, he has been going to the same barber since 2000.
18. D. Did you say that you had come here three days ago?
It’s an indirect speech of a direct speech in the simple past tense- “you came here three days ago”.
 19. D. Tom Did
20. C. (Fay was born) in Surabaya, but today she lives in Jakarta

Hi Lia,
And, here are my suggestions.
Lia
December 17, 2011
Thank you very much for your suggestions, corrections, and reminding me about a capital letter and period, sir.  My English is really bad, because I’m a beginner. But I think it’s good if I try to using English although I had too much mistakes
I want to increase my vocabulary fast. So do you have advices or suggestions for me?
Thank you.

Don’t worry about the mistakes. We’re all still learning. And speaking of how to expand your vocabulary fast, I don’t have other suggestions to offer except those pointed out on Mengapa Kemampuan Bahasa Inggris Saya Kurang Berkembang.

Thank you very much, Sir. I’ve read it, but until now I still don’t understand this: how can I speaking or writing in English without thinking Indonesian. It means I always thinking Indonesian then I translate it in English. My friend also reminding me about that when we were chatting. She said, leave your Indonesian! Just thinking in English! Buuut, I can’t.
Sir, which is correct: Bhaskara Sir or Sir Bhaskara?
Thank you.

Lia, I’ve ever heard about that, too. And I’ve also ever read that we shouldn’t force ourselves to speak English before we are ready. In order to think in English, they said, we must listen as much as possible til we can think in English. And after we can do that we will speak in English automatically.

Sir and Kanadeva, thank you very much. Actually I get more reading and writing than listening and speaking. So, I’ll note it.
@Sir, you haven’t answered my question, which is correct between ‘Bhaskara Sir’ and ‘ Sir Bhaskara’, because my Indian friends always said ‘ Andre Sir’ and I say ‘ Sir Andre’, ‘Ma’am Rita’ not ‘Rita Ma’am’.

Sorry for missing that.

Is it formal or acceptable in Australia to address someone with Mr like that ?”. And, beliau bilang, “Yes”.
